Habitamos há quase meio século nos espaços de liberdade criados pelas independências africanas e pela Revolução dos Cravos. E já quase esquecemos que o fim deste mundo injusto, e o emergir dos espaços de liberdade que celebramos, deslocou subitamente centenas de milhares de pessoas. Nem refugiados nem migrantes, nem deslocados temporariamente, a sonhar com um futuro regresso, nem mão de obra transnacional em busca de uma vida melhor. O nome que se colou à pele destas pessoas: retornados, descrevia o fantasma de um regresso, um retorno, um voltar a uma hipotética casa de partida. Uma urgência sem fim à vista, uma crise demasiado grande para ser resolvida, e a precisar de uma reorganização social e territorial. E um Processo Revolucionário em Curso que enquadrava esta colisão entre a urgência provocada por um súbito aumento populacional, de quase 10%, e a necessidade estrutural de habitação de um país profundamente desigual e injusto. Este trabalho coletivo procura documentar a vida desta urgência, através das histórias cruzadas de três bairros de casas prefabricadas de madeira enviadas, através da ajuda internacional norueguesa, para os distritos de Vila Real, Bragança e Viseu. Procura mostrar a vida da urgência, a sua petrificação, a permanência transformada do que aparentemente era efémero, a maneira de fazer perdurar o temporário, de insuflar no transiente a indefinida permanência das casas.

José Sérgio (Maputo, 1970). Enquanto crescia, fez muito desporto e algum teatro, mas acabou por fixar-se na fotografia, que veio a ser a sua actividade profissional. Ainda em Moçambique, iniciou-se como fotógrafo na Editora Escolar INDE e trabalhou como fotojornalista para vários órgãos de informação, paralelamente a outros trabalhos de produção e edição fotográfica. Entre 1996 e 1999, integrou a organização humanitária internacional Médicos Sem Fronteiras como supervisor operacional e responsável pela cobertura fotográfica de programas de combate à cólera. Já em Portugal, foi fotojornalista do semanário Blitz de 2000 a 2006 e do semanário Sol entre 2006 e 2015. Actualmente, é fotógrafo freelancer. “Presentes! Africanos e Afrodescendentes no Porto” é o seu primeiro livro de fotografia e sucede à segunda exposição individual com título homónimo que em 2020 esteve patente no Mira Fórum, no Porto. Em 2019, expôs “A Viagem que Guerra Junqueiro nunca fez” na Casa-Museu Guerra Junqueiro, no Porto.
Joaquim Moreno (Luanda, 01.01.1973) é Arquitecto pela Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto, Master pela Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona e Doutor em Teoria e História da Arquitectura pela Universidade de Princeton. Desenvolveu atividade docente na Universidade de Columbia, Universidade de Princeton, Universidade de Syracuse, Universidade do Minho, Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, ISCTE e Architectural Association. Foi curador, com o filósofo José Gil, da representação Portuguesa na Bienal de Arquitectura de Veneza em 2008, e com Paula Pinto, da exposição Carlo Scarpa, Túmulo Brion – Guido Guidi na Garagem Sul do CCB em Lisboa em 20015. Curador da exposição The University is Now on Air, Broadcasting Modern Architecture, no Canadian Centre for Architecture, em 2018, e responsável pelo livro homónimo. O livro e a exposição Radar Veneza: arquitectos portugueses na Bienal 1975-2021, com coordenação editorial e curadoria conjunta com Alexandra Areia, é o mais recente resultado de um longo trabalho de investigação sobre arquitectura e media, e a exposição Contadores de Histórias, no MAAT, investigou as arquiteturas da energia. A investigação sobre as arquitecturas da aprendizagem, que começou no contexto de investigação colectiva recentemente publicado como Radical Pedagogies, continua actualmente com o projecto expositivo e editorial Sala de Aula: um olhar adolescente, que itinerou entre Bordéus, Lisboa e Hasselt. É Professor Associado da Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto e director do Mestrado Integrado em Arquitectura da instituição.

For almost half a century, we have lived in the spaces of freedom created by African independence and the Carnation Revolution. And we have almost forgotten that the end of this unjust world, and the emergence of the spaces of freedom we celebrate, suddenly displaced hundreds of thousands of people. Neither refugees nor migrants, neither temporarily displaced persons dreaming of a future return, nor transnational labor in search of a better life. The name that stuck to these people's skin: returnees, described the ghost of a return, a comeback, a homecoming to a hypothetical home of departure. An urgency with no end in sight, a crisis too big to be solved and in need of social and territorial reorganization. And an ongoing Revolutionary Process that framed this collision between the urgency caused by a sudden population increase of almost 10% and the structural need for housing in a deeply unequal and unjust country. This collective work seeks to document the life lived as a result of this urgency, through the intersecting stories of three neighborhoods of prefabricated wooden houses sent, through Norwegian international aid, to the districts of Vila Real, Bragança and Viseu. It seeks to show the life of urgency, its petrification, the transformed permanence of what was apparently ephemeral, the way to make the temporary last, to breathe into the transient the indefinite permanence of the houses.

José Sérgio (Maputo, 1970). While growing up, he did a lot of sport and some theater, but eventually settled on photography, which became his professional activity. Still in Mozambique, he started out as a photographer at Editora Escolar INDE and worked as a photojournalist for various news organizations, alongside other photographic production and editing jobs. Between 1996 and 1999, he worked for the international humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders as an operational supervisor and was responsible for the photographic coverage of programs to combat cholera. In Portugal, he was a photojournalist for the weekly Blitz from 2000 to 2006 and for the weekly Sol between 2006 and 2015. He is currently a freelance photographer. "Present! Africanos e Afrodescendentes no Porto" is his first photography book and follows on from his second solo exhibition with the same title, which in 2020 was held at Mira Fórum in Porto. In 2019, he exhibited "A Viagem que Guerra Junqueiro nunca fez" at the Guerra Junqueiro House-Museum in Porto.
Joaquim Moreno (Luanda, 1973) has a degree in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto, a Master's degree from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona and a PhD in Theory and History of Architecture from Princeton University. He has taught at Columbia University, Princeton University, Syracuse University, University of Minho, Autonomous University of Lisbon, ISCTE and the Architectural Association. He was curator, together with the philosopher José Gil, of the Portuguese representation at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2008, and with Paula Pinto, of the exhibition Carlo Scarpa, Túmulo Brion - Guido Guidi at the Garagem Sul of the CCB in Lisbon in 20015. Curator of the exhibition The University is Now on Air, Broadcasting Modern Architecture, at the Canadian Centre for Architecture, in 2018, and responsible for the book with the same name. The book and exhibition Radar Venezia: Arquitectos Portugueses na Bienal 1975-2021, with shared editorial coordination and curatorship with Alexandra Areia, is the most recent result of a long research project on architecture and the media, and the exhibition Contadores de Histórias, at MAAT, investigated the architectures of energy. His research into the architectures of learning, which began in the context of collective research recently published as Radical Pedagogies, is currently continuing with the exhibition and editorial project Classroom: an adolescent gaze, which has traveled between Bordeaux, Lisbon and Hasselt. He is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto and director of the institution's Integrated Master's Degree in Architecture.
