Como é que as imagens insistem em segregar os acontecimentos, para seu pesar? Que lugar atribuir àquilo que na nossa memória corresponde ao que nunca chegámos a viver? Como abordar a recordação alheia? Que espaço é esse entre a série de colunas que sustêm a história e o olhar que assiste ao seu colapso e reconstrução? Partimos de uma série de imagens de colunas que contam uma história: a durabilidade a todo o custo dos monumentos dos vencedores. E, ao mesmo tempo, essa história sabe que carrega a memória daqueles que, uma e outra vez, interrompem a continuidade sem fissuras das narrativas vitoriosas. Os passeios de Walter Benjamin, em criança, e o outro mundo de Grandville esboçam duas variações que saturariam esta série de ambivalência, levando a uma implosão em pequena escala da história dos vencedores e das suas colunas.
“Imagens de pensamento” dá título a este ciclo, organizado pelo Sismógrafo e com curadoria de Susana Camanho e Emídio Agra, que se propõe pensar as imagens e através das imagens. Com estas conferências procuramos cuidar o que Alexander Kluge chama um “jardim de cooperação”, um lugar que preserva os momentos em que a palavra e a imagem convergem de forma a produzirem algo novo, um espaço de discrepância e cooperação face às cacofonias da informação, face à manipulação industrial e escravização dos sentimentos. Este espaço de debate e polifonia teve um primeiro momento em Julho de 2020, com uma conferência da filósofa italiana Stefania Fantauzzi sobre o papel das imagens no pensamento de Hannah Arendt, e um segundo momento em Outubro, acolhendo R.H. Quaytman, João Barrento, Chantal Benjamin e Lais Benjamin Campos, desta vez com Walter Benjamin como figura central. No ano de 2021, pudemos assistir, em Junho, a uma conferência da filósofa Laura Llevadot sobre o estatuto político das imagens produzidas durante a pandemia. Em Julho, celebrámos o bicentenário de Baudelaire, com a conferência de Mario Campaña, “A experiência do Mal e a posteridade de Baudelaire”. Em Setembro, acolhemos Begonya Sáez Tajafuerce, com a conferência “Imagem-afecto: Corpo, pensamento e desejo”, em articulação com a exposição “The body – borrows a Revolver”.
Ana Lanfranconi é doutorada em Filosofia pela Universidade de Barcelona e investigadora do seminário Filosofia e Género / ADHUC — Centro de Investigação Teoria, Género, Sexualidade e membro do Grupo Arendtiano de Pensamento e Política. É licenciada em Teoria da Literatura e Literatura Comparada pela mesma Universidade e realizou estudos de Master no Departamento de Artes, Filosofia e Estética da Universidade Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint Denis, com especialização em Filosofia e Críticas Contemporâneas da Cultura. Escreveu a sua tese de doutoramento sobre a relação entre as imagens da infância e as formas de politização nos textos de Walter Benjamin. Em 2017, ganhou o Prémio Memorial Walter Benjamin, com o ensaio Kinder für die Auflärung. Infancias e interrupciones en las emisiones radiofónicas de Walter Benjamin (publicado por Documenta Universitaria). Participou no livro Penser avec les lèvres (L’Harmattan, 2019), editado por Laura Llevadot, Juan Evaristo Valls Boix e Patrice Vermeren, e em Palabras clave. How do images insist on segregating events, much to their regret? What place should be given to what in our memory corresponds to something we never experienced? How should we approach the memories of others? What is that space between the series of columns that hold history and the gaze that witnesses its collapse and reconstruction? We start from a series of images of columns that tell you the history: the durability, at any cost, of the monuments of the victors. And, at the same time, that history knows that it is charged with the memory of those who, time and again, interrupt this seamless continuity of victorious narratives. Walter Benjamin's walks as a child and Grandville's another world outline two variations that would charge this series of ambivalence, towards a small-scale implosion of the history of the victors and their columns.
“Thought-images” gives title to this cycle, organized by Sismógrafo and curated by Susana Camanho and Emídio Agra, which aims to think images and through images. With these conferences, we seek to take care of what Alexander Kluge calls a “garden of cooperation”, a place that preserves those moments when word and image converge in order to produce something new, a space for discrepancy and cooperation in the face of cacophonies of information, in the face of industrial manipulation and enslavement of feelings. This space for debate and polyphony had a first moment in July 2020, with a conference by Italian philosopher Stefania Fantauzzi on the role of images in Hannah Arendt’s thought, and had a second moment in October, welcoming R.H. Quaytman, João Barrento, Chantal Benjamin and Lais Benjamin Campos, having as central figure Walter Benjamin. In June 2021, we attended a conference by philosopher Laura Llevadot on the political status of images produced during the pandemic. In July, we celebrated Baudelaire’s bicentennial, with Mario Campaña’s conference, “The experience of Evil and Baudelaire’s posterity”. In September we welcomed Begonya Sáez Tajafuerce, with the conference “Image-affect: Body, Thought and Desire”, in articulation with the exhibition “The body – borrows a Revolver”.
Ana Lanfranconi holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Barcelona and is a researcher at the Philosophy and Gender seminar / ADHUC - Theory, Gender, Sexuality Research Center and a member of the Arendtian Group on Thought and Politics. She holds a degree in Theory of Literature and Comparative Literature from the same University and did Master's studies at the Department of Arts, Philosophy and Aesthetics at the University Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint Denis, specializing in Philosophy and Contemporary Criticism of Culture. She wrote her PhD dissertation on the relationship between images of childhood and forms of politicization in Walter Benjamin's texts. In 2017, she won the Walter Benjamin Memorial Prize with her essay Kinder für die Auflärung.
