Sad Lovers & Giants + Alma Mater Society Portas : 22:00 Concertos : 22:30 After party : Black Havs + Lizardo -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sad Lovers & Giants Os Sad Lovers & Giants são uma banda de Watford, Inglaterra, formada em 1980 cuja sonoridade post-punk mistura teclados atmosféricos e psicadélicos. A formação original produziu dois álbuns de estúdio, Epic Garden Music (1982) e Feeding the Flame (1983), tendo este último marcado a primeira separação da banda. A banda foi-se separando e reunindo ao longo dos finais dos anos 80 e 90, contando com formações diferentes, mas ao mesmo tempo publicando álbuns de originais – The Mirror Test (1987), Headland (1990), Treehouse Poetry (1991) e o último Melting in the Fullness of Time (2002) –, bem como compilações. Atualmente os membros contam com Garçe (Simon) Allard (voz), Tony McGuinness (guitarra), Nigel Pollard (bateria e percussão), Ian Gibson (baixo) e Will Hicks (teclados). O muito aguardado novo álbum ainda é um “work in progress”, muito embora um número significativo de temas tenha já sido apresentado em concertos recentes. A actuar pela primeira vez em Portugal, os Sad Lovers & Giants contam com um grupo de fãs ansiosos pela oportunidade de saborear a sua sonoridade requintada e elegante e que faz dos Sad Lovers & Giants uma banda de culto. Alma Mater Society Os Alma Mater Society começaram em 2014 quando João Miguel Carita vai à garagem e descobre os seus velhos instrumentos musicais: o baixo e a guitarra e começa a tocar e a gravar algumas coisas. Em 2015 um amigo desafia-o com um convite para gravar um tema para um tributo Português a Joy Division – o CD “ Day of the Lords”. Ele toca todos os instrumentos e grava a “New Dawn Fades” e assim nasce a versão. Mas o João não queria tocar sozinho e convida velhos e novos amigos para se juntarem a ele e Alma Mater Society começa como banda: João Miguel Carita (Ex-Kandinski) na voz e baixo, Pedro Lourenço (ex-You Should Go Ahead) na guitarra e a acompanhar na voz e teclados, e Nuno Francisco aka Exploding Boy (Ex-Uni_Form) na bateria. Presentemente Alma Mater Society têm músicas em demo numa espécie de promo EP, estando a ensaiar para tocar ao vivo e para gravar o primeiro álbum. Têm um acordo com uma grande companhia editorial a 4AD e a ideia é editar com selo deles em 2016. Com influências de Joy Division, The Cure, The Chameleons, The Sound, os primórdios dos U2, a banda quer tocar Post Punk revival. No processo de criação, as diferentes personalidades são livres, vagueando entre o preto e o branco, mas o melhor é quando se encontram em sintonia…emoção é a palavra. E será certamente um misto de emoções que teremos oportunidade de experimentar neste concerto. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sad Lovers & Giants Sad Lovers & Giants are a band from Watford, England formed in 1980 whose post-punk sound blends atmospheric keyboards and psychedelia. The original lineup released two studio albums, Epic Garden Music (1982) and Feeding the Flame (1983), before splitting up for the first time in 1983. Throughout the late 80´s and 90’s, the band faced split ups and comebacks with different lineups, but releasing new albums along the way – The Mirror Test (1987), Headland (1990), Treehouse Poetry (1991) and the latest Melting in the Fullness of Time (2002) –, as well as compilations. Alma Mater Society Alma Mater Society starts in 2014 when João Miguel Carita goes to the garage and finds his old musical instruments: the bass and the guitar and starts playing and recording a few things. In 2015 a friend challenges João to record a theme for a Portuguese tribute to Joy Division – the CD “Day of the Lords”. He plays all the instruments and records “New Dawn Fades” and thus the version is born. But João doesn’t want to play alone and invites old and new friends to join him and Alma Mater Society starts as a band: João Miguel Carita (Ex-Kandinski), vocals and bass, Pedro Lourenço (ex-You Should Go Ahead) guitar, backing vocals and synths, and Nuno Francisco aka Exploding Boy (Ex-Uni_Form), drums. Alma Mater Society has demo songs in a sort of promo EP and are currently rehearsing to play live and record their first album. They have an agreement with a major record company, 4AD, and the idea is to release an album with their seal in 2016. With influences from Joy Division, The Cure, The Chameleons, The Sound, early U2, the band wants to play Post Punk revival. In the creation process, the different personalities are free, wandering among black and white, but the best happens they find each other in tune... emotion is the word.
