𝟭𝟴𝗛 ~ 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗻𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗯𝘆 𝗖𝗚
CG is an experimental audio-visual noise duo, a joined collaboration between Carlos Campos (https://carloscampos.pt/) and Guy Fleisher (https://guyfleisher.com/). The duo started from a joint interest in experimental noise music and audio-visual arts. At first, the duo came together in an attempt to give an answer to multi-disciplinary arts, combining visual composition with sound synthesis, through a juxtaposition of meaningful data, and its assimilation and transformation between the mediums of video and sound. At first, the duo stemmed its unique sound from the work instigated by Guy, using a bespoke software titled ‘VideoSynth’, as a single project titled ‘Video Instrumentalization’. By extending the compositional techniques used by the artists, the duo continued work separately from the development of the software, using improvisational techniques and electronic instruments for their performances. The base of the music comes from the special use case the duo found for themselves, manipulating video materials to form ambient sound compositions. As a live act, the duo breaks old paradigms of real-time music composition and improvisation by utilizing multiple disciplines, namely sound (audio) and visual (video). Their unique live setup mirrors their main interests, boasting electroacoustic as well as electronic instruments.
𝟭𝟵𝗛 ~ 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚 𝘼𝙩𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙨: 𝙋𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙤𝙢 𝙁𝙖𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝗯𝘆 𝗔𝗹𝗼ï𝘀 𝗬𝗮𝗻𝗴
Aloïs Yang presents an audiovisual performance based on mathematic description of a chaotic dynamical system, as known as the equations which supports the chaos theory and butterfly effect. The generative spatial soundscape is the result of real-time computing of a model of fractal structure– strange attractor. Two points that are as close as possible to each other initially, after developments of movements in space where no single trajectory is repeated, will lead to further apart the pair.
In contrast to the irreversible yet mathematically stable outcomes of the attractors, Yang introduced a second layer of recording-based soundscape, that is interconnected with his unstable hands movements in space and imperfect gestures captured by a sensor.
Aloïs Yang (b.1986) was raised in Taiwan, and has been based in Europe the past 11 years. He is a conceptual media artist, experimental musician, and performer. His interactive installations and performances treat sound as an emergent medium that has intrinsic experiential knowledge of present timespace. Through feedback systems compose of natural phenomena, biometric sensors, generative computation, and movements of sound in space, he aim to reveal our inter- connection with the given contexts and properties – as an organic sonic environment of self-reflections that incorporate individual's consciousness as the piece itself. Yang’s works have been shown at National Museum Stockholm, Spatial Sound Institute Budapest, Copernicus Science Centre Warsaw, Taipei Fine Art Museum, Musikprotokoll Festival, Graz. He was honorary mentioned jointly by Ars Electronica and the European Space Agency 2016, and “Best experimental album” by Bandcamp in 2021.
