[ADIADO] Palestra "Breaking the Silence"

Breaking the Silence is an organization of veteran soldiers who have served in the Israeli military since the start of the Second Intifada and have taken it upon themselves to expose the Israeli public to the reality of everyday life in the Occupied Territories. The organization endeavor to stimulate public debate about the price paid for a reality in which young soldiers face a civilian population on a daily basis, and are engaged in the control of that population’s everyday life. Breaking the Silence’s work aims to bring an end to the occupation.

On Monday, May 24, at 6 pm, INSTITUTO will host a session with Ori Givati and Avihai Stollar, members of Breaking the Silence, who will talk about the work developed by the organization, sharing their testimonies as Israeli veteran soldiers in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Ilda Figueiredo, President of the national board of the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) will also participate in this session. The session will be held in English and it will be moderated by Nuno Coelho.

Breaking the Silence é uma organização de soldados veteranos que serviram no exército israelita desde o início da Segunda Intifada e que assumiram a responsabilidade de expor o público israelita à realidade da vida quotidiana nos Territórios Ocupados da Palestina. A organização esforça-se por estimular o debate público sobre o preço a pagar por uma realidade em que jovens militares enfrentam diariamente uma população civil, empenhando-se no controlo da vida quotidiana dessa população. O trabalho da Breaking the Silence visa acabar com a ocupação.

Segunda-feira, dia 24 de maio, às 18h, o INSTITUTO acolhe uma sessão com Ori Givati e Avihai Stollar, membros da Breaking the Silence, que falarão do trabalho desenvolvido pela organização, partilhando os seus testemunhos como soldados veteranos israelitas nos Territórios Ocupados da Palestina. A sessão contará ainda com a participação de Ilda Figueiredo, Presidente da direcção nacional do Conselho Português para a Paz e Cooperação (CPPC). A sessão decorre em inglês e será moderada por Nuno Coelho.
