A Montanha tem o prazer de apresentar Portátil, uma performance e instalação de Patrícia Filipe. A inauguração / performance portátil terá lugar sábado, dia 1 de Fevereiro, às 16h30. A performance terá início na galeria e irá deambular-se pelo bairro de Arroios. A exposição estará aberta de 1 a 2 de Fevereiro, das 15h às 19h. Em Portátil, Patrícia Filipe apresenta desenhos, performance, e um registo fotográfico. Singulares porque tratam do bairro onde está localizada A Montanha - Arroios -, os trabalhos relacionam-se entre eles por causa deste foco principal, mas também porque são caracterizados pelos elementos que toda a obra visual de Filipe contem: uma certa delicadeza, uma atenção ao pequeno detalhe, e uma suposta simplicidade. A artista concebeu este trabalho como um conjunto de percursos e acções para uma performance portátil, e pode ser realizável em qualquer local e percurso, a cada lugar tornando-se singular ao mesmo. Mais precisamente, Filipe irá levar os curiosos por um pequeno percurso na zona à volta da galeria, parando em sítios que despertam a sua curiosidade. Não se pode prever o quê exactamente a irá atrair, mas o seu olhar atento “descobre” detalhes que temos tendência a ignorar porque considerados pouco importantes, ou feios, ou porque não foram desenhados para formarem a parte visível da cidade, ou porque representam um certo descuido da mesma. Neste supostamente simples gesto de parar e dar atenção a alguma coisa de supostamente pouco notável, a artista convida-nos a ver com os seus olhos, e portanto com olhos novos, assim abrindo esse olhar a novas camadas da cidade que habitamos, e pela qual muitas vezes fazemos os mesmos percursos, sem prestar grande atenção a nada. Nesses locais elegidos, Patrícia Filipe irá tirar algumas ferramentas e materiais da sua mochila (esta é, no fundo, uma pequena aventura) e irá realizar o que, de certa forma, se podem chamar pequenos rituais, convidando-nos também a participar. Estes gestos, uma vez mais, supostamente simples, e de uma grande delicadeza, têm, na verdade, uma enorme potência. São potentes porque com eles a artista quer inscrever a sua presença no tecido da cidade, nem que seja efemeramente, e fazendo-o põe-se olhos nos olhos com quem quis fazer o mesmo antes dela: graffiters, urbanistas, arquitectos. Patrícia Filipe mostra o seu respeito por eles, o seu reconhecimento, mas também quer deixar o seu marco, e quer mostrar que, não obstante as dificuldades apresentadas pela vida urbana no século XXI, a artista continua seguindo em frente, e não perdendo a sua sensibilidade e a sua criatividade. Tanto o desenho como a performance de Patrícia Filipe são também caraterizados pelo tacto. Uma das técnicas que a artista usa é o frottage, em que é revelada a textura duma superfície, enquanto que o relacionamento que ela tem sempre com o espaço das suas performances também passa pelo sentir com as suas mãos ou com alguma outra parte do seu corpo as superfícies duras destes mesmos espaços. Paradoxalmente, esta prática também funciona como forma de deixar um marco, desta vez pondo-se olhos nos olhos com o lugar em si, reconhecendo a relação que há entre toda a matéria, e conscientemente evidenciando a sua posição neste relacionamento, sempre de forma delicada mas confiante. Voltando à galeria, Filipe traz-nos algumas das coisas vistas na rua. O registo fotográfico do seu percurso torna-se, talvez, o mais evidente “marco” que ela poderia deixar desta sua passagem pela cidade: o seu olhar sobre as coisas que ela notou e meteu em evidência; esse mesmo olhar que nos abriu a vista sobre a cidade. Além disto, a artista apresenta também uns desenhos que, de alguma forma, homenageiam os graffiters que antes dela passaram pela cidade e também quiseram deixar o seu marco. São desenhos feitos com tinta spray, com uma estética punk, em que uma ou duas palavras querem exprimir, simplesmente e forçosamente, identidades, ideias, emoções. O que a artista mete em evidência neste caso são, uma vez mais, coisas notadas pelos seu percursos, mas também desejos sobre como ela própria se quer relacionar com a cidade. O marco, desta vez, é feito através do traço (do desenho e da escrita). Pondo cá para fora - através do ritual da escrita e do desenho - o que Patrícia Filipe deseja da cidade, talvez se torne mais fácil fazer com que essa relação seja possível. Patrícia Filipe estudou Pintura na Ar.Co e formou-se em Artes Plásticas na ESAD - Caldas da Rainha. Realizou projecto final em Desenho com Sergio Taborda. Tem desenvolvido o seu percurso principalmente em Desenho, Instalação e Artes Performativas. Tem participado em exposições individuais e coletivas no Espaço Aberto da Galeria Santiago, Palmela; no Círculo Cultural de Setúbal, na Fala-Só Associação Intercultural, na Kabuki Gallery, na galeria Round the Corner, e na Galeria Boavista, Lisboa; e na Altes Finamzamt , Berlim. A Montanha is glad to present Portátil, a performance and installation by Patrícia Filipe. The opening / portable performance takes place on Satrurday, February 1, at 4:30pm. It will begin at the gallery and will pass through the Arroios neighbourhood. The exhibition is open from February 1 to 2, from 3pm to 7pm. In Portátil, Patrícia Filipe presents drawings, performance, and a photographic record. Unique because they deal with the neighbourhood where A Montanha is located - Arroios -, the works are related to each other because of this main focus, but also because they are characterised by the elements that all of Filipe's visual work contains: a certain delicacy, an attention to small details, and supposed simplicity. The artist conceived this work as a set of courses and actions for a portable performance, and it can be done in any place, each time becoming unique to this same place. More precisely, Filipe will take those who are interested along a short route in the area around the gallery, stopping at places that arouse her interest. It is not possible to predict what exactly will attract her, but her attentive gaze “discovers” details that we tend to ignore because they are considered unimportant, or ugly, or because they were not designed to form the visible part of the city, or because they represent a certain kind of urban decay. In this supposedly simple gesture of stopping and paying attention to something that is supposedly not very remarkable, the artist invites us to see with her eyes, and therefore with new eyes, thus inviting our gaze to see new layers of the city we inhabit, and through which we often take the same routes, without paying much attention to anything. In these chosen places, Patrícia Filipe will take some tools and materials out of her backpack (this is, in fact, a small adventure) and will perform what, in a way, can be called small rituals, inviting us to participate as well. These gestures, again, supposedly simple, and very delicate, have, in fact, great power. They are powerful because with them the artist wants to inscribe her presence in the fabric of the city, even if only ephemerally, and in doing so, she stands toe to toe with those who, before her, wanted to do the same: graffiti artists, urban planners, architects. Patrícia Filipe shows her respect for them, her acknowledgement, but she also wants to leave her mark, and she wants to show that, despite the difficulties presented by urban life in the 21st century, she continues to move forward, without losing her sensitivity and her creativity. Filipe’s drawings and performances are also characterised by touch. One of the techniques the artist uses is frottage, in which the texture of a surface is revealed through rubbing a pencil over a piece of paper; while the relationship she always has with the spaces of her performances also involves feeling with her hands or with some other part of her body the surfaces around her. Paradoxically, this practice also works as a way of leaving a mark, this time coming face to face with the place itself, recognising the relationship that exists between all matter, and consciously highlighting her own position in this relationship, always in a delicate but confident manner. Returning to the gallery, Filipe brings with her some of the things she has seen on the street. The photographic record of her journey becomes, perhaps, the most significant mark that she can leave of her time in the city: her perspective of the things she noticed and chose; that same gaze that opened up our own view of the city. In addition to this, the artist also presents some drawings that, in some way, pay homage to the graffiti artists who before her passed through the city and also wanted to leave their mark. They are drawings made with spray paint, with a punk aesthetic, in which one or two words express, simply and forcibly, identities, ideas, emotions. What the artist highlights in this case are, once again, things noticed on her wanderings, but also desires about how she wants to relate to the city. The mark, this time, is made through the line (drawing and writing). Expressing - through the ritual of writing and drawing - what Patrícia Filipe wants from the city, it may become easier to make this relationship possible. Patrícia Filipe studied Painting at Ar.Co and graduated in Fine Arts from ESAD - Caldas da Rainha. She completed a final project in Drawing with Sergio Taborda.
