We have a beautiful abundance of pears and sunflowers growing... so we open the orchard for pear picking, the garden for harvesting sunflower seeds and for the children to play, and the garden and kitchen for cleaning and preserving the fruits/seeds.
We have not sprayed so the crop is near-organic. There has been early spraying this year in nearby orchards and also maybe 4 years ago in this orchard. We envisage that most of the fruits will need to be cut up and pests removed.
After we plan a celebration of the crop. Bring and share food and drinks both for lunchtime and also after.
This event will be open to families at the local school, other friends and also neighbors.
We suspect we will have a glut of fruit to spare. This will be gifted to the local community and to a charity in Caldas that supports those living in poverty. Depending upon quantities, we may need help with transportation. We are currently looking at buying some wooden fruit boxes.
