For many music enthusiasts the nickname Bishop is as fundamental as Cohen amongst cinema fans. The two brothers, Alan and Richard, alongside Charlie Gocher, founded Sun City Girls in the early 90s and for the next 30 years continued to release the most challenging mix of Jazz, improv, blues, orientalism, mysticism and whatever more could fit in their experimentations. In the mid-90s, between pauses in collaborative works we discovered the solo adventures of brother Alan, both as a musician (as Alvarius B.) and as a editor and publisher as the founder of Abduction and Sublime Frequencies. A few years later Richard Bishop followed the same path, releasing his first solo record published by the exceptional John Fahey on his Revenant label. Followed dozens of solo and collaborative records with exceptional people like Ben Chasny, Chris Corsano and Bill Orcutt, releasing them in labels like Ideologic Organ, Drag City and Unrock.
In a course full of intimate concerts and exceptional records, Sir Richard Bishop has fixed himself in the memory and the collections of many as a fundamental figure of music history. He is a vintage book seller, a profound connoisseur and enthusiast of the occult, and one of the great guitarists of this century. It’s a great pleasure for us to announce we’ll be able to watch him play an intimate concert in Porto.
