Talks at Casa dell’Arte Lisbon 15th of June - 5:00 pm | Rita GT (Artist) with Yara Monteiro (Writer) About Rita GT’s exhibition Uíge at Casa dell’Arte Lisbon Gallery and her relationship with Angola. - Rita GT - Rita GT was born 1980 in Porto, Portugal. At the moment, she lives between Portugal and Angola. Holding a Bachelors Degree in Communication Design from the Fine Arts Academy of Universidade do Porto (2003), she also did a post-graduation study at independent study program Maumaus in Lisbon (2004/2005); yet, she also frequented the Master at – MFA / Malmö Art Academy – Lund University in Malmö, Sweden. Rita GT is, actually, one of the most proeminent Portuguese artists working on themes as colonial identity and memory, focussed on questions of gender and human rights. - Yara Monteiro - Yara Monteiro was born in Angola in the province of Huambo in 1979. Her family roots are in the Central Plateau of Angola and in Northern Portugal. At the age of two, she came with her mother and mother's family to Portugal. She grew up in the South Bank of Lisbon. As a teenager she was inspired by her Portuguese teacher and began writing. Yara has a degree in Human Resources where she worked for fifteen years. In 2015, while living in Brazil, she began a journey of self discovery. That pilgramage inspired Yara to embarked on a shamanic quest into the Amazon that transformed her. Her life completely changed and she left the business world behind. She dedicates herself to writing and plastic arts and enjoys practicing yoga and meditation. Yara has previously lived in Luanda, London, Copenhagen, Rio de Janeiro and Athens. Currently Yara lives happily with her partner in Alentejo. She is the author of Essa Dama Bate Bué! (2018), Editora Guerra & Paz.
