Falando entre si através dos inúmeros cabos que os conectam, os seus sintetizadores modulares rugem e cospem sons, enquanto que em lojas de discos um pouco por todo o lado, DJs e fans de techno esfregam as mãos em antecipação. Assim começa provavelmente um dia típico de semana na vida do britânico Jamie Roberts, o homem por detrás do onomatopaico nome artístico Blawan. E normalmente começa com batidas. Blawan começa sempre as suas produções com batidas. E pesadas. Normalmente tão pesadas que parecem sucumbir sob o seu próprio peso. Não esquecer que o homem tem “KICK DRUM” tatuado nos nós dos dedos. Kicks ferrugentos e rabugentos espalhados normalmente na sua label Ternesc e em colaborações com Pariah (nos Karenn) e com o seu “pai espiritual” Surgeon (enquanto Trade). E este traço fundamental da sua música diz-nos muito do que há para saber sobre os seus DJ sets, tingindo o formalismo do techno europeu com uma vibe subversiva bem britânica, própria de quem começou por espalhar ritmos na cena pós-dubstep do UK. Esses tempos já lá vão, no entanto, e a confiança de Jamie nas linguagens techno são dignas de um veterano predador das pistas mais exigentes. Numa noite à medida de quem tem nervos de aço, Blawan vai ditar a lei, que nós, obedientes cidadão dançarinos, cumprimos convictamente. Talking amongst themselves through countless connected cables, his modular synths roar and spit out sounds, while in record shops a bit all over the place, techno DJs and fans rub their hands in anticipation. That is probably how a typical day in the life of brit Jamie Roberts begins, the man behind the onomatopoeic artist name Blawan. And it usually starts with drums. Blawan always starts his tracks with the drums. Heavy drums. Usually so heavy that sometimes they feel like they collapse on themselves. Don’t forget, the man has “KICK DRUM” tattooed on his knuckles. Rusty and grumpy kicks usually let loose on his own label Ternesc and on collabs with Pariah (as Karenn) and with his spiritual godfather Surgeon (as Trade). And this fundamental trait in his music tells us much about what to expect from his DJ sets too, where he colours the formalism of european techno with a quite british subversive vibe, owing quite a bit to the times when he started spreading his rhythms in the UK’s post-dubstep scene. Those times are gone though, and Jamie’s confidence in the use of the language of techno is worthy of a veteran predator of the most demanding dancefloors. On a night made to order for those with nerves of steel, Blawan will lay down the law that us, as obedient dancing citizens, must abide to.
