Trip to Mira d'Aire Cave & kayaking to Castle of Almourol

Organized by TIAB Events & Universidade Europeia's Buddy Program (Lisboa Está Na Moda) and Catolica International Club

Join us for the 1-day trip to contemplate the beauty of the nature in Mira d’Aire limestone caves and the landscapes of Tagus River bank in an unconventional way – by kayaking!

MIRA DE AIRE CAVES:

Mira de Aire caves are the greatest in the country and were discovered in 1947, but it took 6 years to know the entire track, which now is opened to the public. Caves stand out for their indisputable beauty, revealed by the diversified limestone formations, organs, black river, lakes and waterfalls of the “Stalactites’ Route” which consists of a few rooms: the imposing “Big Room”, the magically colored “Red Room”, the sparkling “Jewelry”, the “Majestic Dome” and the abrupt descend to the “Gallery”. Hundreds of meters long track end at the Great Lake with the final show of water, light and sound.

CASTELO DE ALMOUROL:

The Castle of Almourol is a medieval castle, erected over granite outcrops and located on a small islet in the middle of the Tagus River waterway. The castle was a part of the defensive line controlled by the Knights Templar, as a stronghold used during the Portuguese Reconquista. It’s one of the most emblematic medieval military monuments of the Reconquista and representation of the influence of the Knights Templar in the rising Kingdom of Portugal. It is believed that the castle was constructed by the ancient tribes and later conquered by the Romans during the 1st century B.C. Its structure was later remodelled in 1171.

PROGRAM:

08:30 – Meeting point, to be announced

09:00 – Departure to Mira de Aire

10:30 – Arrival at Mira de Aire Caves: entry to the caves

12:30 – Meeting point for departure for kayaking

12:45 – Departure for kayaking

13:00/13:30 – Arrival in Constância: free time to change clothes and for lunch

14:00/14:30 – Meeting point for kayaking: break in kayaking to visit the Castelo de Almourol

17:30 – Meeting point for departure to Lisbon

18:00 – Departure to Lisbon

19:30 – Arrival in Lisbon

ATTENTION: Bring warm clothes for the cave visit where is quite chilly and appropriate clothes to change for kayaking – please note that after this adventure no one stays dry :)

- 25€ Early ticket with the TIAB Erasmus card (First 25) 
- 30€ Standard ticket with the TIAB Erasmus card until 10/09/2017
- 35€ Standard ticket with the TIAB Erasmus card after 10/09/2017

The price includes transportation by chartered bus, insurance, kayaks equipment rental, entry to Mira de Aire Caves with the guided tour and to the Castelo de Almourol.
NOTE -> If you don’t have our TIAB Erasmus card, you will have to buy at the meeting point for 10€ or before with one of our promoters or at our office, just show the payment proof of your ticket.
