*Bio:
Dr Christine Barter is a Reader in Young People and Violence Prevention at the Connect Centre for International Research on New Approaches to Prevent Violence and Harm, University of Central Lancashire, UK. Over the past 20 years her work has predominantly focused on children’s and young people’s experiences of peer violence and harm in a wide range of settings.  Her recent research has addressed the prevention of violence and abuse in young people’s relationships. She has published widely on children’s experiences of peer violence and bullying within residential settings and other out-of-home placements. Christine recently acted as a specialist advisor to the UK Parliamentary Inquiry into Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment in Schools (2016) and in June 2017 was one of the first experts to provide evidence to the Scottish Inquiry into child abuse in care. Before her move to academia Christine worked in a range of residential settings for children and young people.
