A exposição HOUSE OF PSYCHOTIC WOMEN teve como ponto de partida o livro "House of Psychotic Women - An autobiographical topography of female neurosis in horror and exploitation films", da prolífica autora canadiana Kier-La Janisse. Janisse é programadora e argumentista de cinema, além de ser uma pioneira na análise contemporânea do sujeito feminino no cinema de terror. Fundou o The Miskatonic Institute of Horror Studies e é proprietária e chefe de redacção da Spectacular Optical Publications. Kier-La vai estar presente na exposição e, em sua honra, o Adamastor Studios vai incluir no seu programa “An evening with Kier-La Janisse”. A tertúlia terá início com a projecção de alguns excertos dos filmes abaixo mencionados, seleccionados por Simon Philippe. O trabalho das artistas é principalmente inspirado por uma série de filmes, que fazem parte do vasto cânone de mulheres psicóticas no cinema. As protagonistas femininas, e o seu contacto problemático com a realidade, são o foco principal das obras em exibição. Janisse is a film writer and programmer, and is a forerunner in contemporary analysis of the female subject in horror genre. She is the founder of The Miskatonic Institute of Horror Studies and owner and editor-in-chief of Spectacular Optical Publications. In honour of Kier-La joining us for the exhibition, Adamastor Studios is hosting ‘An Evening with Kier-La Janisse’ as part of the exhibition programme. The evening will begin with a screening of a selection of film clips curated by Simon Philippe. In response to these clips Kier-La will give an informal talk. The event will be in the style of a traditional Portuguese tertúlia, which translates in English as a ‘get-together’. As a tertúlia revolves around discussion, Kier-La’s talk will lead into group conversation between all in attendance. The work of the artists is primarily inspired by several films selected from the vast canon of psychotic women in cinema; the female protagonists and their impaired contact with reality becoming the main focus of the drawings, prints, writings and murals on show.
