Facadas na Noite [Stabs at Night] was a Portuguese independent  label based in Braga, which activities started in 1988. Dedicated to ‘radical’ sounds, Facadas na Noite pioneered the industrial and experimental electronic music in Portugal, editing (almost) exclusively on tape. This exhibition aims to increase the multidisciplinary reflection on the processes of change in contemporary music. At  the same time, it reflects about the more traditional modes of production and dissemination – namely, the cassette format –, offering a reflection on the place of “retromania” and nostalgia in contemporary society that, as several authors (Simon Reynolds, Gilles Lipovetsky, among others) emphasize, marks in a very special way the spheres of urban popular music and graphic design today.

Held under the KISMIF International Conference this exhibition marks the 25th anniversary of the iconic record store Matéria Prima (Porto, Portugal).

The design of this exhibition was sponsored and supported by the University of Porto and will lead to a publication.

This exhibition has the special support of the Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis (Porto, Portugal).
