Registration is now open for the summer course ‘The Power of Immersive Storytelling’, which will be led by researcher and documentary maker Roberta Schillaci. This course is a partnership between CRIA and the research units Istar-Iscte, ICNOVA, and iNOVA Media Lab.
The workshop will take place in Lisbon from 1 to 5 July (from 9 am to 1 pm = 20 hours), at Iscte-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa.
Lectures will be given on various topics and examples of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) will be shown and presented. Students will do group exercises and each will explore an individual concept for the production of a new digital media product. Pitching sessions, group discussions and individual and group feedback will be organised.
Rossella Schillaci is a filmmaker and visual anthropologist. Her works are based on her in-depth anthropological research using cutting-edge audio-visual methodologies. She has produced and directed more than 20 films, broadcast on TV by ARTE, Sky, and Al Jazeera. All her documentaries have been awarded in international film festivals, including: RAI, NAFA, Fespaco, Jean Rouch, Venice film festival, Sheffield doc fest. She obtained her PhD in Digital Media, with practice-based research in digital media and anthropology, from Nova University of Lisbon, in collaboration with the University of Austin at Texas and the University of Turin. Her experimental Virtual Reality documentary Affiorare (Surfacing), won the Best Practice Research prize from BAFTSS and several prizes in international documentary festivals all over the world. She teaches documentary, new media and visual anthropology, recently at New York University as Adjunct Professor.
