Um pequeno teatro ambulante, um lugar de representação chamado retábulo, construído em madeira e tecidos floridos. Cenários pintados em papelão, a iluminação é feita com uma candeia de azeite. O Bonecos são feitos de madeira e de cortiça, os maiores medem menos de meio metro e são vestidos com um guarda-roupa que identifica as personagens da fábula. A guitarra portuguesa e as canções são interpretadas ao vivo. Os textos transmitidos oralmente são uma fusão entre sagrado e profano, entre cultura popular e erudita. São assim os Bonecos de Santo Aleixo, mas quem já os viu e ouviu a serem animados pelos atores-manipuladores do Centro Dramático de Évora (que têm cuidado deles nos últimos quarenta anos, mais coisa menos coisa) garante que são muito mais do que isto! Presença tão regular quanto possível no fimp, regressam uma vez mais para nos dar a possibilidade de conhecer e/ou revisitar esta pequena-grande pedra preciosa do património vivo da marioneta e do teatro em português. Nesta edição do fimp, salientando a importância dos processos de partilha e transmissão associados à tradição, os BSA apresentam-se no Teatro Helena Sá e Costa (o teatro ligado à ESMAE) com masterclass incluída.

A small travelling theatre, a place for acting called retable, made of wood and fabrics with floral motifs. Painted cardboard sets, oil lamp lighting. The marionettes are made of wood and cork, the largest are less than 20 inches tall and are dressed in clothes that identify the characters of the tale. The Portuguese guitar and the songs are performed live. The texts, which are orally performed, are a commingling of the sacred and the profane, of popular and erudite culture. Such are the Bonecos de Santo Aleixo (Santo Aleixo Puppets), but anyone who has seen or heard them being animated by actors/manipulators working at the Évora Drama Centre (who have been taking care of them for the last forty years, give or take) can vouch for the fact that they are much more than that! As fimp’s regular guests, they are returning once again to give us the chance to discover and / or revisit this great little gem of the living heritage of puppetry and Portuguese-spoken theatre. At this year’s fimp, to highlight the importance of sharing and transmitting traditions, the Santo Aleixo Puppets will perform at the Helena Sá e Costa Theatre (the theatre affiliated to ESMAE) and hold a masterclass open to all who sign up.
