More about the Monsanto Ping Pong Club
It all started during Covid, in August 2021, with a strong wish to be more active, social and outdoor. Back then, week days were no different than weekends and Covid just made it worse. So, when I finally pushed myself to take some deserved holidays after 4 years of mumpreneurship, my mentor Kam invited me to go play ping pong at Monsanto park and I immediately thought "why not open this to more people?" and start making my Saturdays look more like weekends and less like another work day. So we gave it the name "Monsanto Ping Pong Club" and opened it to everyone. Soon after and even with the strong and dry heat of 36º we were 10, 20, 30, 50 people playing and the 4 ping pong tables weren't enough anymore. Then the rain came and I spoke with the Head of Sports of my Highschool in Alvalade (Rainha Dona Leonor) and he convinced the Dean to have a meeting with me and Voilá! The school was opened for the first time to other people, besides their students.
In the meantime, people started asking for more and we added a lot more activities: Volleyball, Basketball and Dance Jams. Each one in a separate school gym and always bearing in mind that we wanted this to be friendly, not competitive.
People often ask me to play with them ping pong because they think that if I created this group I must be really good at it, but it was just an excuse remember? My passion is dance! So, without being possible (for now) to use the school during the week, I have added one more fun event in a new location to kickstart your day with morning vibezzz
I have kept the name of the group (Monsanto Ping Pong Club), despite having people mentioning that the group name does not make sense anymore since we don´t have just Ping Pong and we are not anymore in Monsanto, because it will always remind me of the initial vision I had for it. Inspiring people to be joyful and connected and for now this will keep being the common ground for every event we organize.
We are now a group of nearly 20 co-organizers and I can´t wait to see more people joining the party. If you have a fun event in mind you would like to organize we can use our team to help you.
We plan to keep having a lot of fun along the way, so join us. It's always better with friends.
