Photography Workshops - Nocturnal & Astrophotography

A Lourinhã é privilegiada por ser um dos poucos pontos junto à costa com pouca poluição de luz, tornando-a num local perfeito para observação dos astros. Com a costa esculpida em rochedos e marés, é perfeita para retratos paisagisticos nocturnos e astrofotografia. O céu da Lourinhã relembra-nos o que a maioria deixamos de ver quando ofuscados pelas luzes da cidade - um céu sapicado de estrelas brilhantes e planetas em órbita.

No próximo dia 26 a Lua chega a um ciclo Novo, coindicente com marés muito baixas. A meteorologia antecipa céus abertos acompanhados de temperaturas razoáveis, providenciando-nos com uma noite perfeita para observação e fotografia dos astros.

O Maverick convidou a fotógrafa Tânia Neves para um fim-de-semana com as estrelas. A Tânia irá guiar-vos sobre como começar ou melhorar técnicas de fotografia das estrelas e fotografias nocturnas.

Tânia Neves é fotógrafa freelance e além de Portugal já deu formação também no Reino Unido e nos Países Baixos. Apaixonada pelo céu da Lourinhã, a Tânia tem fotografado o céu todas as noites que fica connosco, tendo chegado primeiro como hóspede e depois como a nossa fotógrafa de arquitectura.

As opções dos workshops são as seguintes:
a) 1 noite, workshop de fotografia dos astros - 30€
b) 2 noites, workshops de fotografia dos astros - 40€
c) 3 noites com estadia no Maverick para as 2 noites com pequeno-almoço incluido, com 2 workshops de fotografia dos astros e ainda 1 Workshop de Pós-Produção Digital e 1 workshop de Fotografia Documental, com BBQ de convivio incluido também, tudo por apenas 150€.

Os que se inscreverem nos workshops apenas também são bem-vindos a juntarem-se ao BBQ, por 10€ apenas (reservas têm que ser feitas em avanço).

Recomenda-se que cada um traga o seguinte equipamento, caso queiram practicar:
- uma camera dSLR com modo "bulb"
- uma grande angular (10 a 24mm é o recomendado, independentemente se é fixa ou zoom)
- uma lanterna
- um flash externo com modo wifi
- toalhas de praia
- roupa confortável e agasalho
- água
- calçado confortável para caminhadas na areia ou nas rochas
- têm que estar em condição fisica suficientemente boa para caminhadas nas rochas com pouca visibilidade.

Para os que ficam hospedados no Maverick, recomenda-se que tragam também:
- 50mm (máximo entre 35 e 85mm caso não tenha 50mm), de preferência fixa com abertura minima f2.8
- computador portátil com Lightroom ou Photoshop instalado.

Lourinhã is one of the few coast-side sites that has low light pollution levels (as shown on the map below). Perfect for stargazing and sunsets, its coasts provide us with both strong tides and sharp rock edges, the perfect marriage for incredible nocturnal landscapes photography and astrophotography. Most of us have almost forgotten the magic that mother earth has provided by sprinkling the sky with shinny stars and orbiting planets and satellites.

On July 26th we will welcome a New Moon cycle, coinciding with one of the lowest tides recently. The weather forecast is anticipating a clear night sky with reasonable temperatures, providing a perfect time for stargazing and especially astrophotography.

The Maverick has invited photographer Tânia Neves for a stargazing weekend. Tânia will guide and teach you how to start or improve your astrophotography or nocturnal photography skills. 

Tânia Neves is a freelance photographer that has been lecturing on photography in Portugal, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, and has fallen in love with this site for stargazing. Having stayed with us first as a guest and then as our official architectural photographer, Tânia has been photographing the Lourinhã night skies every time she is around.

There are three options for the workshops:
a) 1 night, Astrophotography workshop only - 30€
b) 2 nights, Astrophotography workshops only - 40€
c) 2 nights, staying at the Maverick with 2x Astrophotography workshops, a Documental Photography workshop and a Photography Digital Post-Production workshop included - 150€

On all nights you will have access to a BBQ at the maverick preceding the course to the beach. We will go to the beach to watch the sunset, to enjoy some laid back time and prepare for the night shooting. 
BBQ - 10€ per person.

It is recommended that you bring the following equipment for the nocturnal workshops:
- a digital SLR camera with bulb feature;
- a wide-angle lens (10 to 24mm is recommended, regardless if it is a zoom or a fixed lens);
- flashlight;
- wireless flashgun (optional)
- beach towel;
- warm clothing;
- water;
- comfortable shoes for rocky and sandy walks;
- you must be fit for walking on medium difficulty trails;

For those opting for the staying at the Maverick option, we also recommend bringing:
- a 50mm lens (35 to 85mm is recommended, regardless if it is a zoom or a fixed lens), recommended aperture f2.8;
- your own laptop with either Lightroom or Photoshop installed.

Reservations must be made until Sunday 20th July, and are confirmed upon full payment is received.
