// PT below // Sarah Mardini and her sister were part of the national swimming team in Syria. When the engine of the fragile boat they were on, trying to reach in Europe, ceased to work, the two sisters pulled the boat swimming, and saved dozens of lives. After having refugee status, Sarah returned to Greece to dedicate herself to humanitarian work in a search and rescue organization in the Mediterranean. At the moment, she is being accused by the Greek government of espionage and aiding illegal immigration. All of this for doing her moral and legal duty to help people in dangerous situations at sea. If she is convicted of the crimes she is accused of, she could face 25 years in prison! #FreeHumanitarians is a campaign to raise funds for her legal defense and that of 2 other fellow humanitarians. The criminalization of humanitarian aid is one of the many weapons used in fortress Europe to keep out people looking for a better and safer life. Solidarity is not a crime, it is a duty.
