Patchwork: A Arquitectura de Jadwiga Grabowska-Hawrylak

Após uma apresentação em Nova Iorque no Center for Architecture e em Lisboa no Palácio Sinel de Cordes, a exposição chega agora ao Porto.
Com uma extensa carreira que abrange grande parte da segunda metade do século XX, encontramos nesta exposição projectos de Grabowska-Hawrylak que descrevem um arco temporal de 1954 a 1993. Da participação na reconstrução de Wrocław aos desenhos modernistas dos anos 1960-70 e à estética pós-moderna que adopta nos seus trabalhos mais tardios, nos anos 1980-90, a obra da arquitecta reflecte as sucessivas mudanças culturais e políticas da Polónia.
Grabowska-Hawrylak é conhecida pelo enorme e escultural complexo habitacional de Wrocław popularmente conhecido como Manhattan. Concluído em 1976, o emblemático projecto tornou-se num símbolo das aspirações da cidade.
Patchwork apresenta 24 obras construídas e não construídas (ou especulativas) de Grabowska-Hawrylak, e uma maquete de Manhattan, a sua obra mais famosa, ergue-se no átrio do i3S - Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde.
Patchwork é organizada pelo Museu de Arquitectura de Wrocław (Breslávia), em cooperação com o Instituto Adam Mickiewicz e financiada pelo Ministério da Cultura e do Património Nacional da República da Polónia.

Coming from the Centre for Architecture in New York and Palácio Sinel de Cordes in Lisbon, the exhibition is now presented in Porto.
With an extensive career covering much of the second half of the 20th century, we can find in this exhibition projects that span from 1954 to 1993. From participation in the reconstruction of Wrocław to the modernist designs of the 1960s-70s and the postmodern aesthetics she adopted in her later works from the 1980s-90s, the architect's work reflects the successive cultural and political changes in Poland.
Grabowska-Hawrylak is known for the huge and sculptural housing complex of Wrocław popularly known as Manhattan. Completed in 1976, the emblematic project has become a symbol of the city's aspirations. Her body of work also includes many examples of exceptional design: 1950s schools, a maisonette building with duplex apartments in the city centre or a futuristic urban centre, among others.
Patchwork features 24 built and unbuilt (or speculative) works by Grabowska-Hawrylak, and a model of Manhattan, her most famous work, rises from the i3S - Institute for Research and Innovation in Health hall.
Patchwork is organised by the Museum of Architecture in Wrocław (Breslau), in cooperation with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland.
