“ALTROVE” (For English version see below) Exposiçao coletiva Maria José Cabral (Lisboa, 1993) Mariana Malheiro (Lisboa, 1995) Paula López-Bravo (Madrid, 1986) Vera Matias (Porto, 1994) Inauguração quinta-feira 30 de Setembro de 18h00 à 21h00 A galeria AINORI tem o prazer de apresentar a exposição coletiva Altrove, que inclui obras das artistas portuguesas Maria José Cabral (Lisboa, 1993), Mariana Malheiro (Lisboa, 1994), Vera Matias (Porto, 1994) e da artista espanhola Paula López (Madrid, 1986). As protagonistas desta exposição utilizam formas e cores para descrever a sua vida quotidiana e o seu "eu" criativo, para que cada criação assuma as conotações de um "atelier de artista" original, centrado no mundo das emoções pessoais e coletivas. Este processo é bem expresso pelo título da exposição. Altrove cuja raiz mergulha na ancestralidade latina aliter-ubi, "diferentemente onde", é uma palavra italiana que mantém o significado: “noutro lugar”. Altrove pretende então ser aqui um lugar que simboliza a ausência do empírico, do banal; uma esfera de experiência destinada a sugerir um desejo de fuga, de evasão, e que toma forma concreta em obras em que as protagonistas representam sobre tela, ou sobre papel, o seu devir no mundo, reelaborando o passado e imaginando o futuro. *** Maria José Cabral nasceu em 1993 em Lisboa, cidade onde vive e trabalha. Licenciada em Escultura e com mestrado em Pintura, ambos na Faculdade de Belas Artes – UL, e atualmente a frequentar um Mestrado em Gestão de Mercados de Arte no ISCTE - UL, conta já com várias exposições individuais e coletivas nas cidades de Lisboa, Coimbra, Funchal, Nova Iorque, Madrid, Veneza, Roma e Palermo. Em 2018, em Madrid, recebeu o prémio Woman Art Award. Em 2019 teve uma Menção Honrosa na Bienal de Espinho. Participou na Bienal de Veneza com uma exposição individual e foi selecionada como uma das artistas a fazer parte do livro "100 artists of the future", com a curadoria da Contemporary Art Magazine. Tendo como um dos pontos fulcrais a evidência dos estímulos pop e a formação espontânea de cor, é uma pintura que resulta na exploração plástica das várias camadas da memória biográfica e do dia-a-dia. É um processo de assimilação e contextualização de alguns conceitos que aliados à vertente de experimentação se encontram com fragmentos do tempo resgatado em diversos momentos e experiências, transformando as memórias em mutações e (re)criações imaginárias. Mariana Malheiro nasceu em 1995 em Lisboa. Estudou na licenciatura de pintura na Faculdade de Belas-Artes de Lisboa, e fez o mestrado, também em pintura, na mesma instituição. Tem vindo a participar em exposições coletivas, entre as quais - “As pedras também constroem coisas” (2021) na Cisterna da Faculdade de Belas-Artes de Lisboa, “Micro-clima” (2019) na Galeria Valbom, “Não contes comigo” (2019) na Galeria Alga, “A dispensa” (2017) no Pavilhão 31 do Centro Hospitalar Júlio de Matos, ou Quarto Ocupado (2017) na Casa da Dona Laura. A par do seu trabalho artístico tem vindo a desenvolver projetos de mediação de arte e cultura. Atualmente vive na sede da Associação Quinta das Relvas - Artes e Sustentabilidade (Branca, Albergaria-a- velha), onde é responsável pela gestão e produção de programas de residências artísticas e outras atividades de artes visuais como workshops, formações e festivais. Em 2019 co-fundou a residência “GRÃO - Residência Artística e de Investigação”, destinada a jovens artistas em ínicio de carreira, que irá neste ano de 2021 ter a sua 3a edição, e que conta com o apoio de entidades como a Faculdade de Belas-Artes de Lisboa, o i2ads (Fbaup) e da Appleton Associação Cultural (Lisboa). O trabalho de Mariana é o resultado dum desejo constante de unir “matéria e motivo” - onde os aspectos materiais que compõem a pintura são tão importantes como as figuras que são representadas. As narrativas que surgem nestas pinturas são frequentemente o resultado da apropriação de álbuns de fotografias de família, onde parece sempre surgir uma procura por noções de antigo, de desuso. Paula López-Bravo nasceu em 1986 em Madrid. Desenvolve a sua carreira em diferentes campos. Atualmente vive e trabalha em Madrid como directora de arte na agência de publicidade, enquanto prepara a sua próxima exposição individual. Licenciada em arte dramática e mestre em direcção artística, combinou a sua carreira como actriz com pintura e performance. Tem estado na direção de duas revistas de arte contemporânea com cobertura nacional. Participou recentemente em exposições colectivas tais como “Making a Splash” (2021) Janet Rady Fine Art. Londres. “Only You Hotel. The Invisible Women’s Club” (2021) Madrid, Espanha e exposições individuais, incluindo “Color & Memory. Tipos Infames” (2021) Madrid, Espanha. O seu trabalho é baseado no momento, no ambiente e no que nos faz sentir vivos. Com um profundo conhecimento da forma e da cor, a sua pintura mostra um jogo espontâneo de cor, com abstracção nos fundos. Fundos cheios de brilho e vitalidade para permitir que a vista se perca livremente entre a vasta paleta de cores, atraindo e rodeando o espectador. A pintura pede figuras, temas, situações e cenas vivas inspiradas por sensações, sonhos, memórias ou experiências. Não se trata de oferecer uma leitura concreta das personagens ou elementos, mas estas personagens são o veículo para captar a percepção do momento. Vera Matias nasceu em Amarante (Portugal) em 1994, atualmente vive e trabalha no Porto. Licenciou-se em Desenho de Cenografia pela Escola Superior de Música, Artes e Espectáculo do Instituto Politécnico do Porto e é mestre em Estudos Artísticos pela Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade do Porto. Em 2018 abriu um colectivo com outros artistas com os quais iniciou um processo de experimentação através da criação de diferentes instalações em que o tema central era o conceito queer, utilizando a sociedade e cultura portuguesas como base para desenvolver a sua investigação artística e social. Expôs recentemente em exposições individuais tais como “Desfolhada: retrospectiva virtual, projecto CONTER” na galeria Dentro (2020) e exposições colectivas incluindo “Do liminar: corpo em variaçao” de Maria Antoinette, na Zaratan Contemporary Art Gallery, Lisboa (2021), “I will take the risk” no espaço AZAN, Lisboa (2020), “Festival Fuori Visioni”, exposição pública de arte, Piacenza, Itália (2020). "Your Body is a battleground" the cave photography, Porto, Portugal (2019). As obras impactantes da artista Vera Matias não deixam indiferente devido às suas escolhas de cor intensas e brilhantes. As obras são um evidente estudo desconstrutivo de figuras humanas, objetos domésticos e elementos do quotidiano que fazem parte da experiência íntima e pessoal da artista. The art display spans across the works by the Portuguese artists Maria José Cabral , Mariana Malheiro , Vera Matias and the Spanish artist Paula López . The protagonists of this exhibition use shapes and colours to describe their everyday life and their creative self . Each work takes on the connotations of an original "artist's studio" focused on the universe of personal and collective emotions. This process is well expressed by the title of the exhibition, which in fact refers to the Latin word "aliter-ubi", meaning "differently where". Altrove, an Italian word meaning "elsewhere", is intended here as the place that symbolises the absence of the empirical, the banal. It is a sphere of experience aimed at suggesting a desire to escape, of alienation, and which takes concrete form by the hands of the protagonists representing their becoming in the world by re-elaborating the past and imagining the future, in creations on canvas, or on paper. *** Maria José Cabral was born in 1993 in Lisbon, the city where she lives and works. With a degree in Sculpture and a Masters in Painting, both from the Faculty of Fine Arts - UL, and currently attending a Masters in Art Market Management at ISCTE - UL, she already has several solo and group exhibitions in the cities of Lisbon, Coimbra, Funchal, New York, Madrid, Venice, Rome and Palermo. In 2018, in Madrid, she received the Woman Art Award. In 2019 she had an Honourable Mention at the Espinho Biennale. She participated in the Venice Biennale with a solo exhibition and was selected as one of the artists to be part of the book "100 artists of the future", curated by Contemporary Art Magazine. Having as one of its focal points the evidence of pop stimuli and the spontaneous formation of colour, it is a painting that results in the plastic exploration of the various layers of biographical and everyday memory. It is a process of assimilation and contextualization of some concepts that, allied to the aspect of experimentation, meet with fragments of time rescued in various moments and experiences, transforming memories into mutations and imaginary (re)creations. Mariana Malheiro was born in 1995 in Lisbon. She studied painting in the Faculdade de Belas-Artes de Lisboa, and did her master's degree, also in painting, in the same institution. She has been participating in group exhibitions, among which - "Stones also build things" (2021) at Cisterna da Faculdade de Belas-Artes de Lisboa, "Micro-clima" (2019) at Valbom Gallery, "Don't count on me" (2019) at Alga Gallery, "A dispensa" (2017) at Pavilhão 31 do Centro Hospitalar Júlio de Matos, or Quarto Ocupado (2017) at Casa da Dona Laura. Alongside her artistic work she has been developing art and culture mediation projects. She currently lives at the headquarters of Quinta das Relvas - Arts and Sustainability Association (Branca, Albergaria-a- velha), where she is responsible for the management and production of artistic residency programmes and other visual arts activities such as workshops and festivals. In 2019 she co-founded the residency "GRÃO - Artistic and Research Residency", aimed at young artists in the beginning of their careers, which will this year 2021 have its 3rd edition, and has the support of entities such as the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon, i2ads (Fbaup) and Appleton Cultural Association (Lisbon). Mariana's work is the result of a constant desire to unite "matter and motif" - where the material aspects that make up the painting are as important as the figures that are represented. The narratives that emerge in these paintings are often the result of the appropriation of family photo albums, where a search for notions of the old, of disuse, always seems to emerge. Paula López-Bravo was born in 1986 in Madrid. She develops her career in different fields. She currently lives and works in Madrid as art director in an advertising agency, while preparing her next solo show. With a degree in dramatic art and master in art direction, she has combined her career as an actress with painting and performance. She has been art director in two magazines of contemporary art with national coverage. She has recently participated in group exhibitions such as “Making a Splash” (2021) Janet Rady Fine Art. Her work is based on the moment, the environment and what makes us feel alive. With a deep knowledge of shape and color, her painting shows a spontaneous game of color, with abstraction in the backgrounds. Backgrounds full of brightness and vitality to allow the sight getting lost freely among the wide color palette, attracting and surrounding the spectator. The painting borrows figures, subjects, situations and live scenes inspired by sensations, dreams, memories or experiences. It is not about offering a concrete reading of the characters or elements, but these characters are the vehicle to capture the perception of the moment. Vera Matias was born in Amarante (Portugal) in 1994, she currently lives and works in Porto. She graduated in Scenography Design at the Escola Superior de Música, Artes e Espectáculo do Instituto Politécnico do Porto and has a Master in Artistic Studies at the Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade do Porto. In 2018 she opened a collective with other artists with whom she started a process of experimentation through the creation of different installations in which the central theme was the queer concept, using Portuguese society and culture as a basis to develop her artistic and social research. She has recently exhibited in solo exhibitions such as “Desfolhada: retrospectiva virtual, projecto CONTER” at Dentro gallery (2020) and group exhibitions including “Do liminar: body in variation” by Maria Antoniette, at Zaratan Contemporary Art Gallery, Lisbon (2021), “I will take the risk” at AZAN space, Lisbon (2020), “Festival Fuori Visioni”, public art exhibition, Piacenza, Italy (2020). "'Your Body is a battleground' at cave photography, Porto, Portugal (2019). The artist Vera Matias' striking works do not leave one indifferent due to their intense and brilliant colour choices. The works are an evident deconstructing study of human figures, household objects and everyday elements that are part of the artist's intimate and personal experience.
