O poder hegemónico inscrito na cartografia e história faz da cidade a primeira arena do conflito, facilmente mediatizável e quase sempre inconsequente, que tende a esconder a luta diária dos seus habitantes. A contradição no debate desta luta é que aqueles mais afectados pelas decisões raramente se sentam à mesa das decisões. O afastamento da resolução dos problemas da cidade e dos seus habitantes, a sobre-estetização do objecto arquitectónico e a dependência quase exclusiva da iniciativa privada e dos interesses da classe dominante, contribuem para a perpetuação da violência sobre as comunidades mais desfavorecidas, oprimidas e excluídas. Struggle Within Conflict pretende através de um debate multi-disciplinar destapar a informalidade e a marginalidade na cidade, questionando assim a intervenção do arquitecto. Struggle within Conflict conta com participação de Ana Naomi de Sousa, José António Pinto e Marina Otero Verzier e organização e moderação de Francisco Calheiros e Maria Trabulo. The hegemonic power is imprinted in its cartography and history, placing the city as the first arena of the conflict, easily mediatable and almost always inconsequential, obliterating the daily struggle of its inhabitants. Furthermore, there is an intricacy to debating their struggle, as those who are most affected by the decisions made, rarely get to sit at the table. The alienation in attending the city and its inhabitants problems, the lack of discourse that goes beyond the aestheticization of the building and the almost exclusive dependence on private commissions mainly serving the dominant class, contributes to the perpetuation of forms of violence against the neediest communities, that end up oppressed and excluded. Struggle within conflict sheds light on the informality and marginality of the cities, questioning the architect’s role. Struggle within Conflict gathers Ana Naomi de Sousa, José António Pinto and Marina Otero Verzier and it is organised and moderated by Francisco Calheiros and Maria Trabulo Event part of the 17th Portuguese Official Representation at the Venice Architecture Biennale.
