Uma inundação de lama devastadora destruiu várias aldeias antes de desaguar no longo Rio Doce. Numa região em que três em cada quatro pessoas trabalham na indústria mineira, o desastre operou uma completa tábua rasa. Silke Huysmans cresceu em Minas Gerais, a alguns quilómetros do lugar onde ocorreu o desastre. Vinte anos depois, regressou ao Brasil pela primeira vez com Hannes Dereere com o objectivo de falar com pessoas afectadas pelo incidente. De volta à Europa, alargaram a sua visão sobre o evento através de entrevistas com, entre outros, o economista Paul De Grauwe e o neurologista Luc Crevits. Cada um deles conta a história do desastre a partir do seu próprio contexto, com as suas próprias nuances e pontos de interesse. A performance de teatro documental Mining Stories não é uma história de detectives ou uma reconstrução do desastre, mas uma viagem intrigante através de uma colecção diversa de histórias pessoais que cruzam tópicos como memória, política, religião e a narração de histórias. [EN] On the 5th of November 2015, a dam containing toxic mining waste collapsed in the Brazilian mining region Minas Gerais. A devastating flood of mud destroyed several villages before flowing into the long river Rio Doce. In a region where more than three out of four people work in the mining industry, the disaster resembled a complete tabula rasa. Silke Huysmans grew up in Minas Gerais, a few miles away from the place where the disaster occurred. Twenty years later, she returned to Brazil for the first time with Hannes Dereere in order to talk to people affected by the incident. Back in Europe, they broadened their view on the event through interviews with amongst others economist Paul De Grauwe and neurologist Luc Crevits. Each of them tells the story of the disaster from their own context, with their own nuances and points of interest.
