A Bird Menagerie - Ink & Collage Workshop

This workshop is specially designed in collaboration with the National Museum of Natural History and Science and artist Nina Fraser, in conjunction with TAXIS DERMA, her current solo exhibition in the sala azul. The aim of the workshop is to encourage a diverse and experimental platform for creativity through a mixed media approach, touching upon themes of consumption, presence and absence, and the changing relationship between humans and animals.

Drawing inspiration from the collection of bird specimens at the museum, you will learn how to apply and mix acrylic ink painting with the technique of collage. Acrylic Ink is similar to using watercolours or Indian Inks, but with a more vibrant and colourfast finish. It is also quicker to achieve bright and fluid effects of movement and flight.

Artist Nina Fraser will guide you through the workshop in two parts - a light introduction to painting with inks, followed by a crash course in collage, composition, and how to bring all the elements together.
