(PT) A performance nasce da leitura das ‘Novas Cartas Portuguesas‘ de Maria Teresa Horta, Maria Isabel Barreno e Maria Velho da Costa, e revisita a paixão da mulher na nossa sociedade contemporânea, da paixão pela paixão à paixão pelo mundo. Usando partes das referidas cartas e textos criados para o efeito a performance fará uso da palavra oral e escrita, da acção sobre o corpo e ainda de imagens desenhadas no espaço performativo.
(EN) Performance around the role of women in the contemporary Portuguese Society based in the project of Maria Isabel Barreno, Maria Teresa Horta e Maria Velho da Costa: “New Portuguese Letters”, written during 1971, while Portugal was under the Salazar dictatorship – using parts of the original text, news, and text written by the artist. The strange narrative is accompanied with the unveiling of a painted banner with a sequence of eight episodes that portray the roles women are still expected to play in our society.
Sobre Carla Cruz:
O trabalho de Carla Cruz experimenta com formas de colectividade, autoria e praticas que tomam lugar fora, e em questionamento constante, do mundo da arte. A sua investigação resultou nos projectos, All My Independent Wo/men (2005-2013) e ASTILHO. Carla tem um doutoramento em prática artistica pela Goldsmiths University of London com o apoio da Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia; foi recentemente bolseira da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian com o artista Antonio Contador na Gasworks/Open School East; e foi investigadora, apoiada pelo Arts and Humanities Research Council e o departmento de Arte da Goldsmiths, com base no centro comunitário The Mill.
About Carla Cruz: Carla Cruz is a Porto-based artist whose projects experiment with forms of collectivity, the erasure of authorship and practices that take place outside and in defiance of the mainstream art system. Carla’s research has resulted in the genesis of a community cultural centre in Guimarães, rural Portugal called RASTILHO and All My Independent Wo/men. Carla has a PhD by Goldsmiths University of London – funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia; she was in residency at OSE/Gasworks with Antonio Contador in 2015 with the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation; and did an AHRC funded Research Associate for Goldsmiths’ Department of Art, based at the community centre The Mill.
