Com a exposição de desenho “Ar”, de Isabel Baraona, Thierry Simões e Tiago Baptista, prosseguimos o ciclo de arte contemporânea “Um Certo Ponto de Vista”, um projecto Artadentro apresentado no âmbito do Programa Cultural 365 Algarve.
O ar é a mistura de gases que compõem a atmosfera que nos envolve; em sentido figurado, pode referir-se à aparência ou aspecto de algo; ou pode ter o sentido de indício ou vestígio, tal como o risco sobre o papel faz o desenho — recordemos que etimologicamente, ar, provém do latim ærem, ou seja: área, “superfície”.
Nesta exposição, embora o papel esteja presente como suporte, é-o apenas ao fixar o enunciado e o rasto do desenho. De facto, a dimensão do Desenho que aqui mais interessa é a de desígnio — implícito na produção do signo através do disegno (o vocábulo italiano original).
Trata-se de uma mostra que é um desenho de desenhos, unidos por um “ar” de coisa viva, em transição, inacabada, aberta e disponível — uma espécie de profecia à espera de ser cumprida.
Sobre os artistas:
Isabel Baraona (Cascais, 1974), actualmente a coordenadora do curso de Artes Plásticas da ESAD.CR, é licenciada em Pintura pela La Cambre (Bruxelas, Bélgica) e Doutorada em Artes Visuais e Intermedia pela Universidade Politécnica de Valência (Espanha). Em 2013, no âmbito de pós-doutoramento, foi bolseira da Universidade Rennes 2 (França) onde desenvolveu uma investigação que deu origem a Tipo.pt — um arquivo online sobre livros de artista e edição de autor em Portugal. Actualmente Tipo.pt é coordenado em conjunto com Catarina Figueiredo Cardoso. Expõe a sua obra individual e colectivamente desde 2001, em Portugal e no estrangeiro. Colabora regularmente com as publicações Cão Celeste e Journal of Artists’ Books, assim como com a galeria belga Office d’Art Contemporain.
Thierry Simões (Maisons-Laffitte, 1968), reside e trabalha em Lisboa. Em 1987, após frequência do Lycée du livre et de l’industrie graphique, no Lycée Maximilien Vox, vem para Lisboa. Em 1990, concluiu o Curso Completo do Ar.Co em Lisboa onde, depois de em 1998 realizar o Projecto Individual de Desenho, passa a leccionar. Tem participado em numerosas exposições e projectos de Desenho, individuais e colectivos, em Portugal e no estrangeiro.
Tiago Baptista (Lisboa, 1967), reside e trabalha em Faro, onde é Professor do Curso de Artes Visuais da Universidade do Algarve. Mestre em Desenho pela Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa, é especialista em Internet Macromedia pela Flag, Lisboa. Paralelamente à actividade pedagógica que desenvolve desde 1997, expõe a sua obra em exposições colectivas e individuais desde 1991, em Portugal e no estrangeiro.

A certain point of view - Contemporary Art Cycle

We are continuing the contemporary art cycle "A Certain Point of View", an Artadentro project, with "Ar" ("Air"), an exhibition of drawings by Isabel Baraona, Thierry Simões and Tiago Baptista.
Air is the mixture of gases that make up the atmosphere surrounding us; in a figurative sense, it may refer to the appearance or aspect of something; or it may have the meaning of "indication" or "vestige", just as the line on the paper makes the drawing. After all, as far as its origin is concerned, the word air derives from the Latin ærem, which means "area" or "surface".
This is an exhibition which is a drawing of drawings, joined by an "air" of a living thing, transitional, unfinished, open and available – a kind of prophecy waiting to come true.
About the artists:
Isabel Baraona (Cascais, 1974), currently the coordinator of the course in Plastic Arts at the ESAD.CR, has a Bachelor's degree in painting from La Cambre (Brussels, Belgium) and a PhD in Visual Arts and Intermedia from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain). In 2013, while reading for her post-doctoral studies, she had a scholarship from the University of Rennes 2 (France) where she conducted an investigation that gave rise to Tipo.pt – an online archive about artists' and self-published books in Portugal. Currently, she coordinates Tipo.pt jointly with Catarina Figueiredo Cardoso. She has been exhibiting her work at individual and group exhibitions in Portugal and abroad since 2001. She collaborates regularly with the publications Cão Celeste and Journal of Artists' Books, as well as with the Belgian gallery Office d'Art Contemporain.
Thierry Simões (Maisons-Laffitte, 1968) lives and works in Lisbon. In 1987, having attended the Lycée du Livre et de l’Industrie Graphique, at the Lycée Maximilien Vox, he came to Lisbon. In 1990, he completed the Curso Completo (Full Course) at Ar.Co in Lisbon, where he began teaching after he had concluded his Individual Drawing Project in 1998. He has participated in numerous individual and group drawing exhibitions and projects in Portugal and abroad.
Tiago Baptista (Lisbon, 1967) lives and works in Faro, where he is Professor of the Visual Arts Course at the University of Algarve. He holds a Master's in Drawing from the Faculty of Fine Art at the University of Lisbon and specialised in Internet Macromedia at Flag, Lisbon. Alongside teaching, which he has been doing since 1997, he has been exhibiting his work at group and individual exhibitions in Portugal and abroad since 1991.
The inauguration of the exhibition will include tasting of some of the best Algarve wines, kindly offered by the CVA – Algarve Wine Commission and by the most representative wine-producers in the region.
