Com curadoria do artista plástico João Rapozo, actualmente residente na VIC // Aveiro Arts House, VIC (re)mixed celebra a livre circulação de informação, a produção colaborativa e a cultura da remix através de uma exposição colectiva inédita que cruza a obra de um dos mais relevantes artistas aveirenses do século XX com as interpretações de uma selecção de artistas plásticos do século XXI.

Neste sentido, 14 artistas contemporâneos foram convidados a intervir sobre reproduções da Jarra Moliceiro - peça cerâmica que representa uma referência inequívoca à cidade de Aveiro -  criada por Vasco Branco (VIC) em 1989. Destes artistas, 11 são pintores e ilustradores nacionais cujas linguagens, tão próprias, constituem já elementos manifestos do actual panorama artístico português. Sendo a pintura de cerâmica uma experiência nova para alguns, tal convite constituiu um desafio e um apelo à experimentação, ingrediente fundamental na arte de Vasco Branco.

No contexto de um intercâmbio artístico entre a VIC // Aveiro Arts House e a Fundação Casa Wabi - localizada em Oaxaca, no México - a VIC convidou também Alberto Rios de la Rosa, curador da Fundação, a seleccionar três artistas residentes para a exposição colectiva. O curador mexicano estará presente no dia 4 de Novembro pelas 16h na VIC // Aveiro Arts House, para uma breve palestra, onde serão apresentadas as peças interpretadas pelos três artistas internacionais.

A antiguidade do molde original utilizado por Vasco Branco permitiu a reprodução de apenas 16 múltiplos, dois dos quais se quebraram ao    desenformar, pelo que cada artista teve apenas uma hipótese de concretização. Combinado com as irregularidades presentes em algumas das peças —decorrentes deste processo— o facto de serem as últimas peças reproduzidas a partir deste molde confere-lhes um carácter ainda mais único e irrepetível.

Não será surpreendente que as peças resultantes deste processo sejam reveladas ao público na Galeria Morgados da Pedricosa, casa da AveiroArte, associação de artistas aveirenses da qual Vasco Branco foi sócio fundador em 1971, na companhia de outros criadores como Gaspar Albino, Artur Fino, Hélder Bandarra, Jeremias Bandarra ou Jaime Borges.

Curated by the plastic artist João Rapozo, currently residing at                          VIC // Aveiro Arts House, VIC (re)mixed celebrates the free circulation of information, collaborative production and remix culture, through a collective exhibition that combines the work of one of the most relevant artists from Aveiro from the 20th century with the interpretations  of a selection of plastic artists from the 21st century.

With this objective, 14 contemporary artists were invited to reinterpret reproductions of Jarra Moliceiro - a ceramic artwork that represents a clear reference to the town of Aveiro -  created by Vasco Branco (VIC) in 1989. From these artists, 11 are national painters and illustrators, whose own language already constitute manifest elements of the current Portuguese arts scene. Since  the painting of ceramics is a new experience for some, such invitation constituted a challenge and a call to experimentation, a fundamental ingredient in the art of Vasco Branco.

Within the context off an artistic interchange between VIC // Aveiro Arts House and the Casa Wabi Foundation - located in Oaxaca, Mexico - VIC also invited Alberto Rios de la Rosa, the Foundation’s curator, to select three resident artists for the collective exhibition    On the 4th of November at 4PM, the Mexican curator will be at VIC // Aveiro Arts House for a brief lecture, where works interpreted by these three international artists will be presented.

The antiquity of the original mould used by Vasco Branco allowed for the reproduction of only 16 pieces, two of which came out broken. Therefore, each artist had only one chance of getting it right. Combined with the irregularities found in some of the pieces - as a result of this process - the fact that these are the last pieces that may be reproduced from this mould account for an even more unique and unrepeatable character of the artworks.

It is not surprising that the resulting artworks shall be revealed to the audience at the Morgados da Pedricosa Gallery, home of AveiroArte, an association of artists from Aveiro that was co-founded by Vasco Branco in 1971, together with other creators such as Gaspar Albino, Artur Fino, Hélder Bandarra, Jeremias Bandarra or Jaime Borges.
