MANPOWER '16 - Festival Internacional de Artes Preferência por Todos os Géneros 3 de Junho, 2016 Rua Poço dos Negros e Rua das Gaivotas O festival de artes internacional lisboeta regressa em 2016 com o tema W-MANPOWER: Preferência por todos os géneros como tema que abarca as origens e significados de ambos, ‘manpower’ e ‘womanpower’, e orienta os trabalhos artísticos que mais uma vez irão ocupar as ruas, montras, restaurantes, locais abandonados e históricos da Rua Poço dos Negros. Com ‘Preferência por todos os géneros’ queremos celebrar o poder do homem e da mulher e ver para além das divisões de género, mergulhando no poder criativo que nasce da pluralidade que inspira a vida e a arte. A seleção de artistas para este ano, feita através de uma open call e de convites diretos, inclui trabalhos ambiciosos de performance, pintura, escultura, vídeo e instalação sonora que irão ocupar a rua durante apenas uma noite. O nome desta rua - Rua Poço dos Negros - é uma lembrança pesada da escravatura, que contrasta com o seu charme intemporal e multicultural. Presentemente, novas indústrias fundem-se com o comércio tradicional, associando-o a novos estúdios de arte, arquitetura e design, companhias de teatro e um museu. With ‘All genders preferred’ we want to celebrate the feminine, masculine and everything in between. To explore the past, present and future in relation to gender (and identity) informing both art and life. This engaging live art festival on Lisbon’s Rua Poço dos Negros presents one night of art, music and performance which inhabit public spaces, occupy shop windows and revive old houses and abandoned historic venues. This street’s name translates in English to mean ‘well of the blacks’ and is a poignant and heavy reminder of slavery, which contrasts with its timeless and multicultural charm. Presently, a new sense of industriousness is merging with traditional linchpins of commerce, creating linkages to art, architecture and design studios, theatre companies and a museum. This festival is only possible through the collaboration of store owners, restaurants, inhabitants and artistic centers in the street.
